愫纠葛:沈如故与秦修远的冲突之夜》

夜幕低垂,秦府的深夜寧靜得如同一幅涂抹了深的畫卷。沈念昔日穿著單薄的衫,fresh from the drafty confines of her chamber, stood at the edge of her bed, her fingers yanking at the silk of her dress to smooth the folds that rode up her thighs.

With an air of impatience that matched her haste, she prepared to descend, yet the bed's other end was occupied by the soundly sleeping figure of Qin Xianyuan, lying on the edge, oblivious to her urgency.

"Please, make room for me to leave," she requested, her tone polite yet brimming with an undeniable irritation.

The man beside her remained still, his body unfazed by her request, his presence a steadfast obstacle to her departure.

With a sigh, she resolved to circumvent him, pushing him aside as if he were nothing more than an inconvenience. But as her foot reached out to step over, Qin Xianyuan's hand lightning-fast clamped around her ankle, halting her motion.

The unexpected grab sent her toppling backward, and Qin Xianyuan caught her with one arm, his other encircling her waist, guiding her into his chest. Their proximity was intimate, her face inches from his, their breaths mingling in the space between them.

Reling from the sudden contact and finding the position unseemly, she forcefully disengaged, leaping from the bed and landing awkwardly on the floor. Her unbalanced step twisted her ankle, and she bit down on her lower lip to muffle the pain.

"Dammit!" Qin Xianyuan's voice was sharp, a mix of frustration and concern.

He struggled to his feet, his movements slow and deliberate. But before he could reach for his cane, he found himself facing a retreating figure, as Jeheng, with urgency, ordered the driver to catch up to protect her return to her residence at Yihe Garden.

The sound of his command filled the night air, a stark contrast to the calm that had previously reigned. Yet, Qin Xianyuan was left where he stood, gazing out the doorway, his mind in disarray.

Berber, returning with news, reported her safe return, but Qin Xianyuan's gaze did not leave the threshold. The worry etched across his brow was palpable, an undercurrent of restlessness threatening to pull him from the stillness of his chamber.

"Master Qin, it is as you said; she is seated in her carriage and on her way," Berber reported, his words an attempt to reassure.

But Qin Xianyuan made no move to reply, his thoughts far from settled. The weight of concern was nearly suffocating, and with a heavy breath, he turned to depart his quarters.

Berber, recognizing the urgency of the moment, called out, "Master Qin!"

Stopping short, Qin Xianyuan turned to find Berber at his side. "What is it, Berber?"

"You should walk around the courtyard for a change, Master Qin. You spend too much time locked away in here," Berber suggested, a mix of caution and concern in his voice.

"You are stepping out of line, Berber," Qin Xianyuan reproached, his expression stern.

Berber had known better than to overstep his bounds, yet his concern was genuine. He had watched the young Qin Xianyuan, once a child who loved the sun, now confined to the shadows within these walls. He could see the man struggling, his once sunny nature now dulled by the constraints of his life.

"The woman I do not know, but I see her as an open bloom of azalea, full of life, and if Master Qin is to take her as his wife, their habits must align; their lifestyles are worlds apart," Berber pointed out sincerely.

The man's words cut through to the heart of Qin Xianyuan, who was jarred by the vivid imagery of Jing Ruiguang as the sun would break through the clouds. He recalled her tales of climbing trees, loving the serene beauty of hills and rivers, a stark contrast to his own secluded existence.

"Berber, ever since I lost the use of my leg, I was destined to live in the shadows. My actions, my past, I am well aware of them," Qin Xianyuan said, his voice low and tinged with a sense of helplessness.

"I understand, Master Qin," Berber replied firmly, his loyalty unwavering.

The clasp of the hairpin had broken at some point during the night, and it now lay cold to the touch in her palm, its intricate patterns digging into her skin. The events of last night, the chaos of the early morning, all felt as sharp and uncomfortable as the pin.

She cursed the deceitful Qin Xianyuan under her breath, her hands trembling as she accidentally pricked the car seat with the尖端 of the pin, leaving a small hole behind. Startled, she checked the driver, who was focused on the road, and dared to breathe again, leaning back against the window, staring out at the world beyond.

The blossoms along the roadside were in full bloom, but she had little interest in their vibrant colors. Her heart was heavy with concern, the calm before the storm she felt was palpable. She wanted the carriage to slow its pace, but instead, it hurried on.

Finally reaching Yihe Garden, the grand gates were wide open, as if awaiting her return. She stepped out of the carriage and the driver drove off, leaving her to navigate the halls of the mansion.

Qin Chonglou stood before the east window of her chamber, the windows wide, his gaze fixed on her as she entered the estate. The sound of her carriage was recognized, and her fate seemed already sealed.

"Ruiguang," he almost called out, but the word died on his lips. The car was Qin Xianyuan's, and it had led her to the manor, leaving him to wonder why she had gone to Qin's house in the first place and why she had stayed there instead of returning to the mansion.

Last night, what had happened between them? He dared not imagine, yet he could see the storm brewing on the horizon. He was certain Qin Xianyuan would not harm her, but the thought was unsettling.

As she stepped into the mansion, Qingci and Hanze, waiting in the main hall, rushed to greet her. Qingci wrapped her in a fierce hug, tears streaming down her face. "Thank the heavens, Fourth Miss, you're all right. Without you, I cannot live alone."

"Don't talk like that," she quickly muffled, her own eyes brimming with unshed tears.

Hanze greeted her with a nod and pointed to the upper floor, his silence speaking volumes. Her heart raced as she ascended the stairs, her instinct telling her that a storm waited for her.

She found no sign of Qin Chonglou in his room, but he was waiting for her in the second-floor corridor, calling out her name as she approached the window.

"He is not in there," she said, acknowledging the obvious.

Before Hanze could speak, she was enveloped from behind, her mouth muffled by a hand that held her fast. She was pulled into the room by the figure that emerged from her own quarters.

She had drunk, the scent of alcohol mingling with the remnants of last night's events. Her heart raced, and she knew that she had to explain, but where to begin?

"Qin Xianyuan holds what place in your heart, and what place do I occupy?" the man asked, his voice cold and cutting.

She knew the answer better than anyone, "He holds no place."

Her answer was a clever dodge, implying that her heart belonged solely to him, but she had left out the part about his heart belonging to her as well.

"What does that mean? You were at his bedside, meeting him at Yunjinfang multiple times, and you say he holds no place in your heart?" he scoffed, his grip on her arms tightening, his expression morphing from a sneer to a chilling smirk.

Each word was like a dart piercing her soul.

"You slept in his bed, Ruiguang. Do you know what you are saying?" he said through gritted teeth, his words cutting deeper than any sword.

He believed her, but the image of her in his bed was unacceptable. He couldn't believe that the man he thought would do no wrong had taken his beloved to his bed.

"How? That is what you were doing with him last night," he growled, his expression one of disbelief and fury.

She had no words, no explanation. What he wanted to hear was a lie, a deception, a lie he knew he could not tell.

"Say!" he barked, his voice filled with an angry demand.

She couldn't. She had woken up in his bed, the truth raw and unspoken.
